Status of this Memo

1. Introduction
This memo outlines current implementation experience of the
DECnet Phase IV MIB Extensions which are defined in RFC1289.
It has been prepared as part of the evaluation process for the
movement of the document from Proposed to Draft Standard
Status. This memo does not specify a standard for the
Internet community.

2. Implementation Experience
A total of four vendors responded positively to the
Implementation Survey described in section 3. In almost every
instance, the vendors chose to implement the same groups.
Based on this experience, it is a simple matter to recommend
which groups should remain mandatory and those that should be
moved to optional status.
In RFC1289, the following groups are defined:
o System Group
o Network Management Group
o Session Group
o End Group
o Routing Group
o Circuit Group
o DDCMP Group
o DDCMP Multipoint Control Group
o Ethernet Group
o Counters Group
o Adjacency Group
o Line Group
o Non Broadcast Line Group
o Area Group
Based on the survey, the following groups have been
implemented by either a single vendor multiple times, or by
multiple vendors multiple times (see the Implementation Table
in Section 4):

o phivSystem
o phivManagement (a single vendor implementation on several
platforms)
o routing
o circuit
o ethernet
o adjacency
o line
o area
The groups that will be moved from mandatory to optional in
the RFC will be:
o session
o end
o ddcmp
o control
o counters (this was implemented by a single vendor once)
o nonBroadcastLine

list on Tuesday May 18, 1993.

2.2. Implementation Table
The following table shows the total number of implementations
for each group in the MIB. I also shows the total number of
vendors which have implemented the group. As a result it is
possible to have a group which shows several implementations
even though it has only been implemented by a single vendor.
